Sequence of events

This section really makes sense if utilized in setting up a class. If the first thing that a student sees when they walk into a room are the targets for the day (along with any equations, etc.), this will trigger the Primacy method, At the end of the class, reviewing all of these areas will also then trigger the Recency method. Meanwhile, injecting humor and anecdotes into the teaching will often get things going emotionally, showing how the concepts reach an end result, or showing pictures of the steps along the way will trigger visual learning, and utilizing various steps such as pneumonics for learning will help make things unique.

In screenwriting there is a method called "begin at the end". Which is backwards chaining. Easy set up to start a class.

Jennifer,
yes, taking a different approach can really open up the students minds to the new concepts & ideas.

I think it helps with the retention of learning to change style of teaching up.

I agree that changing the sequence of events in the classroom to help a student learn is the right thing to do.

Clint sums it up nicely........sometimes sequence can be altered if it helps a student process thru the course of study.

Triggering the Primacy method is a good idea, this is why I like to get into the classroom well before the students. Being prepared myself creates an air of comfort for he student.

Triggering the recency method before they leave is also beneficial but it is difficult to do when a number of students elect to leave early once the test is completed.

There are times that I must change the order of the class instruction to avoid this from happening. This way I test later in the classroom.
