Math

Because student do not see relevance. In spite of the fact that they use it every day, each class is a challenge to make it interesting by relating the topic to a real word experience. I do that through my own background as an engineer and the use of TED and YouTube.

Math is a critical factor in the safety of the personnel that we train. Dive schedules are not overly hard but the addition and subtraction of time often messes with the mind, so stories of some of the decompression injuries Ive seen that were the result of bad math helps focus their minds abit.

I refer them to KHAN Acadamy when they're at home. They're free from YouTube and not all students can afford Tutoring or available for it when it's offered.

What is a good way to find videos? There is such an abundance of things available, it's overwhelming trying to find something that's the best fit for my students, especially since I am an adjunct and already spend way more time on class prep than I'm actually getting paid for.

I agree,so when you show them math that they may understand and relate to they retain the information. (Dr. ordered Tylenol 650 mg :on hand you have 325 mg how many tabs do you give). This is something taken on a daily basis and something you can relate to.

As a medical assistant instructor I have learned to tell the students that you can kill your patients if you do not do the math calculations correctly.

Michael,
I think the stories you can share from your engineering experience would be greatly valued by the math students.
