it tends to make the students feel they are a major part in classroom and feel they are noticed.

To me, I can see in their expression if they understand or if they are just lost. If they understand, I move on to the next student. If they are lost, I will ask them questions directly or re-word the content.

I think it is very important since that time you have contact with a student they feel like you are talkking directly to them.

As each student enters the Lab I try to acknowledge the with a Hello and look directly at them. This open up our communication when class starts.

i completely agree with that it keeps them on task

by giving direct eye contact the students know they have your attention and are aware of what they are doing, so they will not talk to their fellow class mates while your lecturing.
eye contact is also a sign of respect, so respect given will in return be received.

Having eye contact with students helps to keep them on task in the classroom. It helps establish a human bond and trust between instructor and student. When students know that you'll be making eye contact, they stay more involved.

I think it is very important to have eye contact during lecture. It just takes a few seconds and lets the students know that you are focusing on them.

GREAT comment Kevin!

I do believe that teachers/instructors/facilitators are part social workers.

Good job!

Absolutely David!

It's almost like a friendly/trusting relationship has been build - barriers have been broken down - we become equals. It's about trust and respect.......

Great observation!

I use eye contact to make sure the students are understanding the objectives of the subject or at least are understanding the big picture. I will only stay on one subject for no more than 10 to 15 minutes while asking the students questions at the same time.

The value is tremendous. When eye contact occurs it sends a clear message to the student that they are important. When the student feels important and cared about true learning can occur.

I HAVE STARTED DOING THIS MORE AND HAVE FOUND THAT STUDENTS ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE DISCUSSION.

good morning Darren!

So true - grat observation!

Hi Jay
Eye contact are the most power communication tool, eye contact build confidence and connection between instructor and student behavior, students feel and see the instructor have experience in the class course and material student will build trust with the teacher.

you are making a connection with the student and also you are looking to see if the student is paying attention and understanding the info provided.

for 3 -3 seconds yu have there undivided attention. so a continued sweep of the class room in this way keeps the students involved.

It shows the students that you are trying to reach them all especailly if u make eye contact with them all.

No student wants to just see the top of your head as read from a book. Making eye contact makes them feel that you know they are there and you are talking to them, not just speaking to hear yourself speak.

For me, I like to continually be looking at the students and have as much eye contactas possible because I feel that the studnets believe in what you are saying when you make eye contact withtehm and you as an Instructor get ta better and more clear idea if the student is "getting " what you ar e saying or trying to get them to understand.
