Classroom Movement

This discussion topic is certainly interesting. Classroom movement is essential when teaching. When teaching, I was put myself in student’s shoes or perhaps the time when I was a student. I notice that the more teacher walks around the class when he/she explains or lectures, it keep me engaging.

From teacher’s perspective, classroom’s movements give sense of a comfort zone when teaching. This is where you’re not only lecturing but at the same time, getting to know your students, having eye contact and interact with your students. In addition, by walking around, you get a sense of idea of the how your voice travels across the room from the front of the class. This is, I guess, how you determine if students from different corner can hear you or not.

Hi Chuck!

There's always that one student that we need to stay connected with and moving around is a good strategy.

Good work!

Movement keeps the class involved and adds value to the presentation instead of just standing behind the podium and lecturing.

Good job Kodee! We do what we have to ensure that students are getting the best learning environment possible.

Keep up the good work!

I also lecture in a small classroom that is uncomfortable to try to squeeze between the aisles while students are present so i stay very active at the front of the class i would even say animated so i can keep my students attention

How do you move about effectively when you teach in a small classroom? I feel like I am limited to "pacing" because of a small classroom...

I agree to interact with the students, walking around the room you recognize all the students and no one is left out.

Hi Tracy!

Yes, moving around in the classroom can certainly help keep students focused and interested in the topics discussed. Because of the attention students retain more of the info. I try to make my classroom as interactive as possible.

Good job!

I like to move around a classroom. If I see a student drifting off or even sleeping, I will meander to that side of the room. It really wakes them up!
They pay attention for a bit (until I have to go to the other side of the room).
This worked really well for me this quarter when one of the students tended bar until late the night before the class (poor kid).
