Moving about the class.

I always keep moving about the class room, because it helps by keeping the students engaged in the lesson. They feel as thou they are involved in the days activities.

It can be difficult at time Siane. But important to utilize what little space you do have.

Keep up the good work!

some classes rooms are too small for moving around

I move about in the class room to keep them in engaged and to keep them on their toes about class rules such as no texting but a mainly to keep them engaged with the subject.

I would love to move about the class and do when I can while I am lecturing. Our problem is the equipment. When we are doing power points, we don't have a way to move from one slide to the next without actually hitting enter on the lap top which is attached to the podium. any suggestions short of me getting the company to purchase new equipment?

Hi Heather!

Can I join your class - it sounds fun but yet very productive and informative.

Keep up the good work!

I totally agree with keeping on the move in the classroom. I am also very animated and talk with my hands and use just about all of my body sometimes to give examples. I will mimic certain tired or restless behaviors during a lecture to make a point and then continue on so the students may see what kind of message their body language gives. I am in no way boring and they should be having fun and be interactive. I play a game with parts of the digestive system where the students take a 5x7 card with the name of each section of the digestive track and have to line up in the correct order. If it's incorrect they more to the end and the next student takess a turn. They learn the lecture and have fun at the same time.

I am always moving around the classroom while I am lecturing. I find this accomplishes several things. The most important one is that it keeps the students engaged and it allows me to see what they are doing. I feel note taking is very important and I can see if that is being done. The students are usually listening intently as I move around. I am a very animated instructor and moving around plays an important part of that process. I can't stand an instructor that stands at the desk or just sits there and gives a lecture. BORING!!

I agree about the students sitting in the back of the classroom. Some sit back there because they think that the instructor won't call on them. By moving around the room, all of the students will stay better involved with the class.

Hi Robin!

I find those student that just can't be engage by moving around in the classroom eventually stop coming to class. Have you experienced this as well?

Keep up the good work!

Moving about the classroom is a valuable tool in getting all the students engaged. By simply moving to the rear of the classroom, you have moved all the unprepared, unengaged students who chose to sit in the back to the front row. Students will eventually learn that there is no place for the unprepared, unmotivated student to hide.
