LOCATING YOURSELF IN THE CLASSROOM

I enjoy walking around the calssroom. I have noticed hat it helps with student participation.

When I was going to college I liked to sit in the front row because I wanted minimum distraction between me and the lecturer. Therefore, I didn't like it if the lecturer moved to the back of the room. Of course those were the days before texting and ipods that now have to be policed.

I always enjoy a new class' reaction when I suddenly am moving all around the classroom and they are not sure what to expect next. It certainly 'wakes" up the students who may not be used to this approach.

I agree compleatly with you , I hated instructors staying in one place in front of the room. You just put yourself on a island away from your students.

Hi Marlene!

Connecting with out students is very important in their learning process. Moving around in the classroom and eye contact are two very good ways of connecting.

Keep up the good work!

I agree. I feel that walking around the classroom shows the students that you are comfortable and reachable.

Walking around the room shows the student you are comfortable and accessable. This also keep the student focused on the lecture and less inclined to be distracted by the next student or talking among themselves.

Hi Russell!

Most instructors are very comfortable with using this technique. I really like the opportunity to build a teacher/student relationship in this manner.

Keep up the good work!

I AGREE, WALKING AROUND THE CLASS HELPS EASE THE BARRIERS BETWEEN STUDENTS AND TEACHERS SHOWS THAT WE ARE ACCESSABLE .
