Eye contact

Eye contact is a great way to let students know that you are watching and interested that they are paying attention. If you maintain eye contact then they will learn from your expressinons and voice inflections. When you do not maintain eye contact students will tend to occupy them selves with other things such as a cell phone under the desk or falling asleep in class. Let them know that you are interested in their education by acknoleging them frequently during the lecture.

Great way to engage students who may be drifting off.

Just as we, as instructors are watchful of our students expressions, they too are watching ours. I am a very expressive person and whether it is done on purpose or not, students are able to read my expressions while I am lecturing, going over highlights, powerpoints, etc..... I am excited and very enthusiastic about the courses.

Hi John,
I too like to maintain eye contact, especially important for a longer class ( 2-3hrs). I feel it let's them know I want them to learn and I am here for them. A smile helps to remind them I am happy they are engaged.

while making eye contact with your students is an important way of letting them know that you are interested in their education by acknowledging their presence,it is important to do it in a way that doesn't make them uncomfortable specially those from cultures that consider direct eye contact is disrespectful.

Hi John!

It's about connecting with and patrolling for those students who are distracted.

Good job!
