Locating Yourself

I like to move thoughout the class because it gives me a chance to see if the students are paying attention, it also makes them realize that my focus is not just on one person but on everyone and that I expect everyone to participate in the class discussion.

Hi Robb!

I like your idea of asking a student to assist you. Moving around the room is important for keeping attention and making a connect with students.

Keep up the good work!

In technology related courses the computer can trap you behind a desk easily. I sometimes like to bring a student forward to be my "hands" on the keyboard so I can move around the class more.

As a new teacher I feel this technique will be very useful to me. My only question is how do I know if my movements have become excessive? I dont want to be a distraction in my own classroom.

I tried being very aware of my placement in class this week. I think that this modual was helpful in that it has brought this to my attention.

I like the fact that you use this technique in order to monitor the students focus and that it helps you realize that you are able to attain focus on all students--not just one.

Moving around the room as I lecture helps me to include all the students. I have found that students will ask more questions if I am in "their space" and tend to view it as personal attention, even though the classroom is full of other students. For me as the instructor, moving around the room also allows me to pull in shy students, and reassure others.
