Standing or sitting
Is it okay to sit while lecturing to the class?
ANNETTE,
I agree that standing typically is more engaging for the larger groups of students. Sitting can be beneficial if you are trying to really encourage class participation in some type of discussion.

Sitting is okay, but i think standing gets your class more involed in the lecture. Because you are getting everyone involed and interested in the lecture.
Thank you for this great advice. I find it hard with one instructor and a lot of students to stay in one place, so I move around too much I think.
ill have to try sitting,i tend to float all the time.maybe i should mix it up a bit.
I agree. I use both methods. Mostly, I remain standing during lecture. However, there are times where sitting is more appropriate. It depends on the material being covered. Sitting puts the teacher on the student's level. The students seem to not as shy in speaking to those on their level. Again, there is a time and a place for both methods of delivering instruction.
Hi Brooke!
I like to stay close to students so even when I lecture, I try to find a place within the classrom to position myself. I change the seating arrangement when feasible to draw students closer in for discussion. Then I float as well.
Keep up the good work!

I believe you should sit and also float about the classroom so it helps the students stay focus and involved in the information being delivered.
Hi Lynnette!
Sitting is OK but I do remind you that students are more engaged in the process when we are mobile and interactive. I often sit on the corner of a table or pull my chair closer to students. If I can have the class in a circle or semi-circle seating arrangement, sitting feels more connected because there is nothing between me and the student. Try to keep a balance.
Good job!
