Examples of Memorable Examples?

One thing I would like to find out more on how to do is creating memorable examples in English related classes. It’s not easy to always find a good relation to a complex grammar idea. If there is any more information out there on this topic, I’d like to find it! Any advice here?

A simple analogy for determining the subject of a sentence is to compare the sentence to a movie or TV show. Ask 'Who is the actor? and What is the actor doing?' If the task is more complex, then continue with what words describe the actor or the action etc. This visual helps students determine the parts of speech and understand sentence structure.

I also agree. I have used humor to discuss past events and stories. It keeps the students engaged and enthusiastic.

Hi Beth!

Very good question?

When all else fails, using humor is a great way to start a conversation - and - for me English grammar had to be humorous or I would never have gotten through it. So - having said that - maybe you and your students create new memorable examples.

Knowing as much about your students as possible is another strategy. You may have students whose grandparents did not speak English and they could have some great stories - but not at the expense of degrading family members.

Does anyone else have any ideas for Beth? If you do, please let her know.

Good work!
