Floating

I have never heard of the term "floating" in relation to a classroom setting. Many times in the past, I have stood behind a podium in order to feel "safe". However, after I have gotten use to the class, I feel more comfortable in moving around the classroom and talking to my students. I am wondering how you can incorporate "floating" in the online enviroment. Do you show your presence in many parts of the class, especially the discussion area?

I work to stay involved in the discussion area but am wondering if this show enough presence in the online classroom. Do you have any suggestions on how I can be more present and show that I am moving around the classroom?

Thanks, Denise

Bee,
Yes the presence of the "floating" instructor can be a great motivator to help students stay focused.

I always float around the class. When I'm walking around I look at what every student is doing,if they are paying attention, if they are texting or trying to text. As you walk around the student are aware and they tend to pay more attention.
