Arlene,
Great observation. Think for yourself how many times it took you to learn a brand new concept & often it had to be presented in a few different ways before it really sank in.

Julia,
It really is amazing how valuable the skill of storytelling is. When I worked in the corporate environment, we were working with our execs to become better storytellers!

Beth,
You make a great point regarding listening to what is left unsaid. If we are truly listening at the deeper levels, this can often be a great way to discover that there is that disconnect.

i would like to get my point accross alot more clearer to my students. some catch on pretty quikly but others stuggle to understand what im trying to teach. it would give me a sense of security when we are all on the same page of discussion

I would like to improve my speacking skills. I find that I can usually put the information on paper fairly easily. Explaining it verbally, can be a challenge at times.

Probably remember that students are learning a concept for the first time and therefore restating, restating and restating. It may appear redundant but finding a way to present the same content in different ways is a great help to students.

As an instructor, I would like to improve my story telling ability.

Being more attuned to the listening at four levels, especially in terms of what is left unsaid, and when there is a disconnect. Often can become so focused on getting the information across, can forget to ensure the students are absorbing all that has been delivered.

Yes it's amazing how much of a difference a smile can make. The instructor really does set the mood

Smiling,I need to work on the initial time students enter my class ,with a smile and acknowledge I am happy that they are there.I beleive i do it but not as good as I would like!!!!

I'm not sure what your rules are, but from my standpoint I would say Ad Lib! I teach public speaking, presentation skills & communication courses & one thing I drill into my students is that power point is an aid to your presentation--it should not be your presentation! Use the power point as a general guide or map, not your script.
Ryan

I would like to improve on my power-point presentations. I seem to just read them and I know it's boring... I want to utilize the power-point provided with the course... I wish I knew how to make them more exciting...

So, I guess I want to improve on the use of power-point presentations without just reading them. I feel when I don't read them as they are laid out... I'm cheating. I want to add lib but, feel I shouldn't...
