Expectations

Why are student expectations important to a course's learning objective outcome?

Patricia,
and I would add that the student is satisfied that she learned what she expected to & even a little more.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

If the student is satisfied with the outcome of the course, the expectations are met. They may be looking for something specific, if the instructor knows the expectations, the instructor can connect making the learning a positive environment. The examples and revelance of a topic make the learning memorable when it is applied to career knowledge.

Paul,
you would not want to change the course's learning objectives based on student expectations. However, if we connect with the student expectations, we often find they're in line with the objectives & this engages the students even more.
