Movement and Gestures

I find moving around the classroom and gestures is effective not only with delivery of instruction but is also helpful with keeping students from side bar conversation, sleeping, playing with cell phones, etc.

I move around the room to keep the students engaged they tend to follow which I find as a good way to see they are paying attention and seems like they are more likely to ask questions. However, I find it so ironic that this point (and those on voice tone, inflection and eye contact) are highlighted by 'Maxwell" the computerized cartoon... ha

Yes, moving is great to help keep energy in the room, but gestures need to be natural looking, in the same way vocal intonation needs to sound natural.

jose,
the good point here is that we need to understand our classes, when we meet, what's going on etc, so we are as interesting as possible.
