monitoring the classwork
I try to keep an eye on all my students as they are performing their tasks, this way i can see if they have a question or if they are about to make a serious mistake.
As a new instructor I think this is a great idea. It gives the ability to monitor with out seeming like you are just looking to be hard on the students. Thanks for the great tip.
I try to find a legitimate reason to move around the room during an exam. For instance, I'll pass out the outline for the next lecture. I let the students know that I will be doing this ahead of time so they can "ignore" me as I place an outline at each of their spaces.
No question that student monitoring helps you be aware of any emerging issue that will need your attention but for the adult learners, you don't want to be perceived as policing the classroom.
Hi Chopppy!
Unfortunately, instructors have to be mindful of those students who will cheat at some point during the classroom experience. I like to head that off where possible and the eye contact and moving about the room can certainly help prevent such episodes.
Keep up the good work!
