Monitoring Student Learning Groups
Monitoring student learning groups effectively is a skill every teacher must learn about. How to be a good monitor is a skill and needs to be developed as an instructor. Any suggestions for student learning group monitoring?
I think it is important to monitor student groups to help keep them on task
When students break up into groups, I try to have the groups no more than 3-4 students and I try to listen to each of the group discussions by giving some feedback.
This is an approach I use occasionally in Math classes. After the lecture portion of the class, I let the students break out into groups to work on the homework. I then float around the classroom monitoring each group and assisting where I feel it is needed in order to keep the students on task.
