Students getting to know each other.

At the first day of class ask all students to take off their shoes and put them into one pile. Then ask students to pick a pair of shoes and find out who they belong to. After finding that person ask a couple of questions about that student. After the whole class is done. Each student will discuss to the class what they found out about their fellow student. It also gives the instructor an insight of each individual student.

Hi Andres!

Do you have any "getting to know" opening exercises? Students really like those, they get to know each other and have fun doing it! It also says to them this is going to be a fun, informative class.

Keep up the good work!

First day of class I always make sure to let students introduce them selfs to the class but I also give students some time to talk to each other and find common ground. By letting them see that all students have a common goal for the course it helps in pulling the class together.

I think the cell phone idea is great.

I find that by placing students in groups they not only get to know one another, come out of their shells and even find their own comfort zone during the process. They also gather outside ideas that motivate them further. The positive aspects far outway the negative ones.

I agree Angela! I like the cell phone idea as well.

Good work!

This would work with cell phones also, it is a great idea and mehtod to ease anxiety of students being in an unfamiliar group.
