learning groups

i teach in a kitchen and most of the work is done in groups. each group will have menu to do and a time in which it must be done the does keep them focus

It's really interesting to see which students take a leadership role - not always the ones you would assume.

I pair my students up, at the beginning of the course, a new student with a "senior". In the lab it is for the safety of the new student, as well as, reenforcing the learned skills of the "senior". I am looking foward to trying a learning group in my lectures. I will follow the same concept of matching beginners with the more experienced student.

That's great Peter. How do you get them oriented to the groups? Are they already familiar with one another or are they all relatively strangers? Just curious from a group "storming & norming" perspetive. Thanks.
