Two Heads are Better than One
When we put students in a group it helps them to learn from one another, it keeps them interested in the class, and it helps them to participate because they know they are a part of other peoples grade.
Mary,
and the group work teaches them to appreciate the diversity around them & understand how to utilize their own strengths & abilities better.

This is my experience also. Preparing the students to be able to work in diverse groups is helpful in the work environment. Each has an important part they can contribute. As a group, the results produced is superior to one produced by a single individual.
Hi Joshua!
I, too, like to pair students. It offers many opportunities for learning. What other learning opportunities do you think are availble to students who work in pairs? Do you change up the pairing?
Good work!

Sometimes when I add an extra credit assignment, I will let the students pair up. I feel that by doing this it helps the students learn what they are researching and from each other. So far it has worked well.
When student groups are formed you are bringing in several different backgrounds, origins, experiences and learning strategies. When all of these are combined it makes for a successful group learning experience where each person in the group walks away with more knowledge than they had prior to the experience!
I think this is a great avenue for learning. Alot of students will voice their opinions when they are in smaller groups. Different perspectives are so important. It is great when everyone is open and looks at the assignment from everyone's point of view.
groups also helps student learn from each other mistakes too... I always encourage them to not be afraid to make mistakes, so they will learn how to corect them.
Hi Vanessa!
It about what students bring from their background, life experiences, education, etc., that makes group work so valuable and interesting and classroom experiences so important to the learning process.
Keep up the good work!
