A portion of their grade is group work and the other portion is individual. I also like to ask students to evaluate themselves and each other. It is very interesting how honest most of them are when they know the other students will not see what they wrote.

I evaluate student groups by assigning each individual member a topic to present in class. From that I get to see how familiar the student is with the material. I also give each member of the group a confidential evaluation sheet with a listing of each group member name. Then I have several objectives where I give each student the opportunity to "grade" each other on their involvement in the project.
