Where should a problem student be placed
Student that are capable of doing the work with not much direction dont really like to be put in a group with students they feel arent trying to be apartof the lesson or activity, where should the problem student be placed
It's very tricky balancing out the student's within one class but you also can't put all of the problem student's together seeing as nothing will get done within that group. It's always good to throw in am incentive like some extra credit for the most successful group or something of that nature.
Somtimes with adult learners itis hard tosee the benefit to helping their fellow students
Tough situation. I have spoken to this type of student in privacy before groups were formed. Explaining to them you wish for him/her to contribute ideas and discussion so all students will benefit. "Pumping them up" works wonders.
An interesting problem; however, one that requires the so called "problem student" to remain in the assigned group. Part of the learning process for students is how to adjust and adapt to varying type personalities within that group.
As with all group dynamics, a leader and deligator will emerge. This might require your initial intervention to start the process, but the students must learn how to make productive use of all the mind sets and attitudes brought to the group.
