A learning group is very important in teaching our students that they will be working with a very diverse group of coworkers. They learn that it is important to have a team leader and that everyone has to chipp in for the good of the team to get the work done.
It gets students to work together and create teamwork in the classroom
learning groups bring a diversity of student experiences that can achieve a better outcome in learning
helps academics and allows student to share ideas with others in an acadic environment
One of the positive outcomes of putting students into learning group is that it helps students (even the more quiet or silent ones) partcipate in the learning process. Such students will be more inclined to talk in smaller groups than in larger ones. Another positive outcome is that by sharing ideas, each group can come up with something better than individuals. In addition, learning groups help student learn to work together as a team!
Student groups allow opportunities for leadership traits to emerge as well as teach the importance of team dynamics. It is good to have students feel not only responsible for their own grades but also feel the weight of shared responsibility and group success or failure.
I think putting students into groups give them the opportunity to work with a diverse population and learn how to cope with people that have different work ethics.
-working with other individuals toward a common goal is a positive outcome that will help in every aspect of life, not just an individual class.
-hearing different ideas and approaches to understanding class material will be beneficial in keeping more students engaged.
-giving students responsibility in their learning and understanding will allow them to feel some "ownership" of the class material

yes one of the great benefits of the learning groups is that they can engage in peer to peer learning/tutoring.

Learning groups are wonderfu. I feel the students learn so much from each other. They all come into the group with different life experiences and expetations.
Dr. Meers,
Learning groups help students learn from from each other. Another student may have insight on a topic that another student did not understand. Group learning can help clear up any problems that are existing in the class.
There could be both short and long term positive outcomes of putting students into learning groups. In the short term students can improves test scores and want to particpate more in class. Long term positive outcome could mean high rate of passing licensing exams and being confident about their new careers.
I often have students who lack some organizing and time management skills. Group work helps them learn to set schedules, timetables, and work toward deadlines. I think it's also good prep for "the real world" where they will have to interact with others.
Molly ,
yes, the smaller groups can be very valuable in helping those students who are not as outgoing or more reserved.
Dr. Ryan Meers
The students that are shy and do not want to participate in larger groups will participate generally with a smaller group where they feel more comfortable.
I think each student brings something different to the class and being in a group this could help other students learn better.
I believe putting students into learning groups helps them learn about working on projects as a team. Many issues in the work force are resolved by teamwork. The sooner the students learn to work effectively as both a team member and a team leader, the better.
Yes! And I also feel that hearing different perspectives helps students think "outside the box". Some of the greatest innovators in society looked at things from a different angle than what was originally taught.
Students get a chance to work with others that they don't typically talk to. It allows the students to learn to work together and adjust to different personalities
some of the positive outcomes from putting students into learning groups is that it will increase the opportunity for all students to have input into the learning process also help them with individual accountability.
