Student Learning Groups
Learning groups are a good way to ensure that all the students are able to be involved. Groups should be 6 to 8 learners.
Student learning groups are encouraged thrice on a weekly basis. This helps students develope a learning style.
I agree, plus it also enables students that don't talk out in class, or afraid to respond, more flexibility to respond with peers. It's also a good time for the students to reflect with one another, may not feel as intimidated.
I'll get a good feel for the personalities in the class prior to assigning lab groups. This is a great opportunity to identify the natural leaders and those that need to be brought out of a shell. If at any time the groups are not working well together, I'll either coach them through the difficulty or reassign the teams.
I feel that by giving students group projects to do, it opens up alot of students ability to ask more questions and have a fair input with their peers. As where alot of students don't like to participate for fear of being embarassed when its something simple like answering a question aloud in class that is asked by the instructor. Once a student finds that they're just like everyone else, they tend to become more outgoing.
I agree, this way the student feels more free to particant in the class since they are with their peers. They seem more relaxed.
I like to charge some of the shy ones with some small task inside of a small group and I usually see a person come alive and do well
jennifer ,
yes these small groups can be a great way to get some of the more shy students to feel comfortable in contributing.

It also gives a chance for the students that are shy and soft-spoken to voice their opinion. Because all eyes are not on them and they will feel more comfortable in a small group setting.
