Organizing student learning groups

When organizing learning groups give students an outline to help stay on task, move around the classroom check each group progress.

Its kinda nice being in the auto industry training since I always try to get 4 students per group that way it makes it very easy for each student to work on a single wheel of the car then once they are comfortable with that area we can switch to another new area

Steven ,
I think these are both great ways of trying to answer the issue/problem of group "slackers."

We have learning groups as one of the required project formats for our foundation courses. Have found that students are reticent to form if group grade is the outcome as fear of the "non-working" member may affect their oputcome. I address this with a two prong offense. A) their individual grade will be a direcvt result of their input into the project. b) an evaluation of trhier role in the team and the effectiveness of the team as a whole will be evaluated through use of a survey, which other members will not see, but may be considered as part of their individual grade toward the project also.

Georgia,
these are great suggestions that can help keep students focused.
