Monitoring

Monitoring is a good way to let every student know they are valued in your class. It can help bring out some of the more shy students.

Monitoring really helps with those students who find it difficult to stay on task. If they know their instructor is monitoring, they tend to try to stay focused more. Especially for adult learners, most don't like to be redirected when they're not on task.

I really like the idea of the 20 second pause. I will be trying this in the class room. I plan on being more aware of the group dynamics, observing, and being accessible to students during the group work.

Annie,
yes, this can be a great tool to get that feel for all that's going on in the class.

Dr. Ryan Meers

Monitoring the class is something I have been working on. Using the twenty second survey has help me and my students.

Very well said. Every student wants to feel important. While they may work in groups they are there for their own individual education. When they know you care they will do that much better and have a better chance to become that much more successful. Caring instruction is the base for knowledge and knowledge breeds confidence and success.
