Diverse learners

This type of individual learners may need some extra assistance. Depending on what type of student you have in class. That's why the first day or two is very important.

Yes John - an instructor has to be able to teach to the entire class but at the same time assist those students who could get bored.

Keep up the good work!

I teacher must always know his or her students well enough to keep the students in the zone of proximal development. A teacher must know of many ways to teach the content to make adjustments if the students are finding the content too easy or too difficult.

Thanks, Jennifer, it sounds like you utilize a variety of delivery techniques together to reach your students - great reinforcement as well, bravo!

Yes- that's true. Especially with lots of hands on activities. Their reading/ writting (e/g.) skills may not be apparent until we give our midterm, and then it's a little late to help them in this class.
I try to make sure that there are different types of learning experiences in my class.
I'm at a culinary school- so most of their grade is hands on. I do demo- then they re-create it. they have written homework of recipe conversions and Prep lists. We watch videos on subject material.
All lecture is done during demo- but all lecture power points are available in their supplement.
Most demos are available in video format for further review, upon request.
students are also given two written projects for the term- both of which do have "study guides" for those who request the help.
A variety of educating styles help with all the different types of learners we have.

Vinnie you are correct. In some cases though we can't find out who has a problem until week 2. They hide it that well.
