is it easier to make different tests for different learing types?
Had an experience a year or so ago with a student from the Dominican Republic. He should not have been admitted and probably would not be under our current admissions processes. He could hardly speak a complete sentance in English. He could not understand spoken English unless you were speaking directly to him. He was incapable of negotiating proper grammar and syntax. He used a computer as a translator.
This kind of student really has no place in continuing education until they have achieved a workable standard of English. Empathy is fine, but the end game of preparation for employment for a Technical School does not allow for this level of inadequacy.
Good question. You obviously can't go into a bench lab and have a color blind person making Cat-5 cables. Therefore, you'd have to adjust things for them. Of course, that's if you know about these situations prior to the class, rather than embarassing the student.
