life experiences can , if related to the subject of the day, help students understand what the real world is all about. this could be a benifit to someone in the future.
Trust and motivation helps the ELL students grasp the concept in English. As learning a new language is hard for myself I take that into the big pictures when dealing with ELL students.

Relating to the students is very important, it builds trust. A lot of the time getting the student to open up is the hardest point. The more comfortable they feel the better the uptake.
I totally agree, William. Most of us require some type of point of reference for learning to take place. Sharing of life experiences is that opportunity.

Life experiences allows for the transfer of knowledge from students' own lives to the classroom. If they have an experience to relate new information to this way, a faster understanding of material can happen, thus, making information more meaningful.
Working in the corrections field along with teaching the subject to students helps with giving real life stories during instruction.
