Life experiences

I didn't realize that life experiences would be so critical in helping the students in class. I do use them periodically, but I think after reading this module, I will use them much more.

I have used life experiences as often as I can because many of the life experiences I have talked about, are not in textbooks and the only way to learn is through life experiences brought into the classroom.

Indeed, life experiences are shared to relate the situation or circumstances to the students area of expertise. There are many situations within a diverse group would handle differently. We all learn form what others have to offer to resolve a situation.

Life Experiences help the students remember and refer back to a life experience that they have had or have heard.

Sometimes life experiences truly help one get their point across

Yes, I've found that implementing (work-related) life experiences really solidifies the rapport that is built with students. It makes the students re-discover, if they have not already, that you too are a person, a human, who has had to start from the beginning. Sharing these types of experiences such as the difficulties you had with your final exams, difficulty finding employment, obstacles being a new graduate, and being the rookie in the particular setting often provides students who are doubtful or having similar difficulties realize the light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, this depends on whether you are considered a success by the students. Hopefully you are, and the student look up to you and want to be like you. Then, they will realize that those experiences and obstacles are just the norm and somewhat like a rite-of-passage that they must go though. In work, as in life.
