Motivation

Motivation is the key the success. When motivating students the atmosphere is totally positive. Motivation helps students realize their potential and keep them in a positive learning state.

I have to agree 100% with that statement. when I teach either by lecture or practical aplication I always keep in mind as to whether I am making an impact on the class by seeing there attitude during that time. if they are motivated then it makes my job a little easier to help them reach there goal in understanding the material. motivation is KEY in success for me.

I agree that the aadult learner does not need as much motivation as the high school grad. The adult learner has a mind set of accomplishing their goal by achieving the education needed. They feel it and this alone keeps them motivated. What is needed is encouragement and paraise for what ever they are striving to achieve especially when life outside school interferes. High school grads are still unsure of what they want as a whole and keeping them on track of the big picture in the end is what is challanging. I believe they need someone to listen and guide much as a parent would.

Tracy,
this is a great observation. I think we have to remember that what separates a high school senior from our students sometimes is only a matter of a few weeks.

I find that the older students I have don't need the motivation to stay involved and on the correct path but the recent HS graded I have are the one's that tend to get distracted. I find myself sitting with them more often really trying to help them not give up and to see the light at the end of that tunnel.

Hello Demelece,
Motivation is important. I often find that learners start with a large amount of motivation and it can sometimes die off. But as Instructors, it is up to us to tap into and keep that motivation and excitement going and growing!
It is best to provide an atmosphere where motivation can be cultivated. We we are motivated, they are motivated. We we are excited about what we are teaching, they are excited about what they are learning.

jennifer ,
it really is so important to be that cheerleader as well as critic for our students as they are developing their skills.

Motivation is key when teaching cosmetology, I have to constantly let students know that they can do it and give them that confidence to complete there service.

Most of my college students have no problem with motivation as they know what they want to do with their degrees. Its the high school kids that need motivation the most. I use many different examples of people and situations they know well. They need to know that they can do well as long as they see the results. I cite many examples of how many times various people in their lives wanted to go to college or fulfill their dreams and didn't. Anything and everything is achievable if they work at it rather than taking the easy way and doing nothing. Students need regular reinforcement to know that they will succeed.
