Diverse learners

As an instructor, one is met with many challenges; some of those can include reading disabilities and comprehension barriers. Whatever the challenge may be, the instructor must work to create an inclusive environment and work to make sure all students feel accepted.

Pat,
this is a great point & really speaks to the need for the classroom instructor to be the leader in the class.

I agree that we as instructors definitely do set the tone for how positive and accepting of diversity the class is. I have found that with demonstrating an understanding and acceptance of all of my students, whether ELL or challenged in other ways, that typical students model my behaviours and tend to be accepting of those students as well. It also is very apparent as an instructor that any student who you recognize as needing additional support responds well to your helpful attitudes.

Maurice,
it really is imperative that we, as the instructor, set a tone of positivity & inclusiveness for all of our students. Often the best way to help any student is to demonstrate our openness & desire to help them.
