Different Learning Styles within the Classroom
Personally, I have two very different types of students within my course load. One group is very analytical and the other is more creative. I try to feed both learning styles within one in class assignment. In pairs they can work together, both the left and right brain mentality, by having say a group come up with a window display concept. One thinks of how to present the concept to a manager by crunching the numbers and reviewing the display calendar while the other partner executes the visual by hand.
Once you change your wording how did it work for you?
This has been a more difficult angle for me to approach, reaching each student's learning style. I have had to refrain from using the the words 'test or quiz' I now use the words Assessment of Knowledge, I am thoughtfully calling this an AoK... to help take the pressure off of students who 'freak' out at the above mentioned words... Something else I do is read or re-read the questions to students during an assessment if they are having trouble understanding the wording... it sometimes is successful.
This is a great idea. I have never thought of trying to pair up students based on their learning styles. I am going to try this with my next project.
Chelsea,
this is a good exercise as it teaches them to work with different styles & personalities.
