Motivation
How does an instructor deal with students that are motivated, yet their grade expectations is unrealistic, due to lack of studying?
I absolutely agree with you. I have had this issue several times with students in my class. I often have them meet with me after school and show me how their methods of studying. Sometimes its time management other times its a issue of missing key factors that they should be focusing on for the exam.
MOTIVATION IS THE PROCESS OF INSTILLING A DESIRE TO DO BETTER. STUDENTS ARE MOTIVATED BY THE FOLLOWING:
FUTURE GOALS
SPIRITUALLY
CLASSMATES
MONEY
SOCIALLY
FAMILY
EDUCATORS
I will say try another teaching method. Try to add more videos, documentaries. Normally this strategies works better because is more visually.
I encourage the students every day. I had a class that had very little motivation and it was killing me. Each week I would come in on Monday with a new technique. Now at the end of the term the students are a completely different group. I am truly going to miss this group as they have challenged me as well as helped me grow into a different type of instructor.
I think you need to have a talk with the student and explain to them. I understand your motivation however, your test and quiz grades are proving that you are not spending the time studying. Be real with them. Sugar coating does not help anyone.
I have offered tutoring as a form of self study
