Learning
I come from a background of LD problems. I know how it is to over come a lot of these things in life. I have a heart for those who share my problem and want to help them. I have done a lot of the things said here but I know the most important thing is having a teacher or instructor at your back for support and chering you on.
Hi Donald!
Good job! I like the idea of involving the student's support system. I would encourage you though, to be sure that the student is OK with this approach. It sounds like you are very committed to the success of each of your students.
Keep up the good work!

Support in the classroom from the instructor is vital for success of any student. It is also beneficial for the instructor to explore what support systems are in place at the student's home to continue the process for eventual success. The instructor could invite the student's support systems in one day for an open house to open this door of exploration.
I have never really had to work with a student that has a reading or comprehension problem that I know of. The most experience I have is with working with students that are covered under ADA protection and need longer on their assignments.
Tha is every good thing you do for your student. What I do to my students since the first day star to know them I know who needs more extra help and to those, i give.
James, It only takes one light bulb to turn on for a stuggling student, and the rewards are endless.
I understand where you are coming from and applaud your effort to reach these students, sometimes it just take patience and care.

The one student you stay late to tutor and they finally get "it" can be more rewarding than a whole class of quick learners.
I too come from a background of having a L.D. I have to do math problems over and over again to have it sink in. It's frustrating, so I know what the students who have a L.D. are going through.
I believe also support is everything. I to come from a background of needed support as well. I sometimes find myself reading articles two to three times before fully understnading what's at hand. So I totally believe in supporting students who need help as well.
