Learning Disabilities

I realize that there is a lot of support that can easily be provided to students with learning disabilities through investigation and proper planning.

They need someone who understands what it takes for the student to absorb the information. If the instructor is patient, and truly interested in teaching, they will figure out how to reach the student no matter what their disability is.

It seems as though the message could be viewed that all students have special needs. The more methodologies that are used in the classroom - the greater number of students we can reach.

I too try to teach with different methods. I find that it not only helps the students with learning disabilities, but also the other students who might be struggling with a difficult concepts.

I have a few students that have learning disabilities. I try to work with those students individually so that I can access their personal needs and then format my lectures to incorporate many different methods of learning.

accomodating students by allowing audiotaping is helpful. using large print books or a designated reader as well as graphic planners on the computer work too. They should be given extra time and frequent breaks during test time.
