Greetings Gilbert!

Recognizing, accepting and adapting is my approach. I, too, find myself being motivated as well.

Thank you Mr. Fruit. Being Patient is some times a hard thing for us to keep in mind during troubling times in class. I have found that if i can speak to my students about any learning problems that they may have, It easies their mind about the class. Also they feel more accepted in the class.

I agree with being patient but try to treat them as normal people. I respect their willingness to continue and reach their goals. Their drive or motivation is much more intense than a regular person. I find myself motivated by them!

Hi Danile!

I don't think that it is just students who have special needs. I know that I like special treatment/recogniztion and so do most other people. Some needs are greater than others!

Keep up the good work!

Some of these students have never had anyone really care about them or their needs. Every student we have deserves to be respected by us but I have found that my students respond the best when thay know that I truly care about them succeeding.

Wonderful approach David!

You really sound like a true educator - one who cares not only about the learning process but about each student as an individual.

Good job!

Patience and discretion are essential when dealing with troubled students. It is also important not to be patronizing.
In discussions with students who have (or claim to have) a learning disability, I usually try to make the condition seem fairly common so they won't feel abnormal. I've found that treating them with respect really helps, and I refer them to the school counsellor who can inform them of their options etc. then whatever is decided on, I try to implement.
