denied learning disabilities

How do we cope with a student who denies an obvious disability? If they are struggling and refuse help, how do we get them to relize they need it?

John,
Unfortunately this does happen sometimes. While we feel responsible & are saddened to see this, we have to remember that we cannot want this for the student. Each student has to own his or her own educational experience. We must provide the environment for learning, but they have to embrace it on their own.

That is a hard one. I had an older student who could read only a little. He refused help and in the end never did complete the class. I felt helpless because he just refused help.

i have the same question. if you have a student who you believe to have a learning disability, what is the best way to go about getting them to realize it and accept help? I don't think we are in any position to diagnose students with learning diabilities, and know that if I don't see medical documentation i have been instructed not to give special priveleges to students.
