I use training aids that they rember like toy trucks in the class room i will ask them questions and have them answer or show me how it works I find this helps the student that are struggling because there hand are on it when they get to touch it they learn.
Hi Kenneth!
Good for you! But you know that there are other ways to help struggling students. Using colored paper, highlighting important info and words for meaning, block information on handout sheets that should have extra focus, use colored markers on the board, and use student mentors. These are just a few and I know that you can think of others.
Keep up the good work!

By having the students associate the new skills or information with something they know works well. Or by having them break down what they are learning to smaller parts and working it a few times. Repetition is a good strategy for a student to reinforce what they are learning
By changing the wording most of the time works for me.Repeating several time works as well. Ask them questions that pertainted to the topic that we are on at the time. Getting positive feedback from the open ended questions that i ask them helps me see what i need. Also helps me determine if they are getting out of the lectures that they need.

After a couple of lab days I can usually identify students who may be struggling and offer tutoring after class to help them. This helps give them a better understanding of the following days lab class material and helps prepare the student for the final exam.
I use all the things mentioned by everyone quizzes, crosswords, Q & A and then I look for opportunities in lab or when they are asking about their cars to use information from the text or work book or something we talked about in class to help them answer their own question. I find that this helps to give the material relevance and sometimes motivates them to try a little harder.
The students are often exposed to all new information and I have to start from the ground floor up. If any challanges arise then I can assit one on one with them. Often is is reading that is the challange to them. For many student it is knowing that they are learning is of value to them. Often they do not see that far ahead.
i use a lot of visual aids and talk about (NFL)
Name, Function and Location. After taking about NFL we spend time talking about diagnosos. I have had a student with a severe disability to the point the student could not write in a readable fashion. This means homework and lab sheets could not be read. We found that holding the papers upside down and in a mirror was the only way to read whatever was written. To date this student is using a lap top to take notes, complete lab papers and all other written assignments. All tests must be read aloud. This individual is smart and persistant.
When introducing new component and terms I like to use visusl aids. Tell them what it is , show them and tell them what it is used for. Then I pass it around and let the students touch. see and explore the new thing. Tis usually brings on questions that let me decipher how well they are understanding and what more I cando to help them.
Greetings David!
You have made some excellent points in your comments. As I've stated in other posts, I see most students as somewhere between challenged and challenged! Most people have some limitation to learning no matter how smart they are or how well they do in the classroom. And - you are absolutely correct about motivation to which we can self-esteem. But we keep helping!
Keep up the good work!

Usually I use questions on the board relating to the previous day's topic. I like to use visual materials and interactive activities that are provided on a CD with their textbook.
When I teach,I have the class answer my questions after leaving a word or words out, so they have to remember.I have reviews and students answer them. I do not.If this is done as a whole class,Thet all seem to learn
The type of strategies that can be used like, quizzes, crosswords and such but these types of strategies involve the student to read. If this is the case most of the strategies will not work well. I will use quizzes but will back up with covering the topic over and point to key words. Will try to use lots of visual's to help make the topic or subject easer to understand. Case in point when giving quizzes I will make key words bold print and underline that word. I will have students come up explained and set up the scenario and give me visual’s to help with any corrections.
Reinforcement strategies used are quizzes, crosswords, matching. Questions are asked to the students during lecture and lab on a random basis. For any student who is struggling, tutoring is available. I will and have come in early and stayed late to accommodate a student if at all possible. If students come in with an accommodation it makes it easier because the method that works has been identified. The challenge with many of our students is that they have not been taught study or test taking skills. That is usually were I start and by questioning the student and giving them scenarios, usually we can figure out a method that works. The biggest issue is motivation, lack thereof.
I use a question and answer period. I will also use lots of visual's to help make the topic or suject make sense. i stress tha if they do not under stand to tell me and i will stay after class with students that need more time
I use a question and answer period. I will also use lots of visual's to help make the topic or suject make sense. I also make sure my students are all comfortable about asking questions. As long as I make sure they understand to ask question's it makes class and lab a lot easier.
during lab exercises,I will pose questions that require the students understanding of what they finished so far and keep reveiwing the important points until they have mastered them. Sometimes I will use crossword or fill in puzzles also.
I will spend a minimum of several hours reviewing the course material recently completed by the students on the web, reinforcing how the material will be helpful when we go to lab. After all the lab stations are complete I do a review of the the days lab stations.
After a day or two of lab I attempt to identify students who may be struggling and offer tutoring sessions before class to help them with the material recently covered. This helps them better understand the following days lab and better prepares the student for the final exam on the new material.
