learning how to test

a student with a poor back round in test taking or with some kind of disability can with a little attention and explaintion be able to inprove on their test grades.

We actually incorporate test-taking skills into our introductory course.

It is important that the student understand the design of the test, The instructor may want to give the student extra time.

If the instructor can spend some time with the student, he or she can understand why the student has problems with the test.Sometimes reading the test to the student is enough, but many times, they get confused by all the choices and wording of the questions. By breaking down the questions, they can understand what is being asked, without 'coaching' them.

Hi Dennis!

One of the things that I always do in my classes is to discuss test taking strategies and entertain any questions that students may have regarding testing. I also use quizzes in a way that are representative of what students will see on exams. I find this really helps those students are more challenged at test-taking than others.

Keep up the good work!

Sometimes it is as simple as understanding how the test is " geared" for example, breaking the types of questions down individually. This is done usually during class introductions, while covering class " operations and safety" . I will take out and ASE preparation guide and discuss those questions.
