Identifying Student Needs

I have an opportunity to work with a student with a learning disability. The program counselor had documented the necessary environment for teaching (non-stressful) and examination (required to be a quiet area so that student could focus). The student could also be prompted by instructor or counselor prior to exams.

laura,
this is a great strategy & is based on being there & open to our students.

I have found a lot of students will not disclose their learning disabilities to program counselors. The student does not want to be singled out. However, I have found paying close attention to the students in your class, creating a bond with the students, and making them feel comfortable in their enviroment will give you helpful insight. Usually after the student becomes comfortable with you as an instructor, they will disclose their issues. This allows you to assist them in their success.
