Instructing Learner with Disabilities

For assignments use simple and brief wording, use fewer steps with sequence in a manner that lead to a effective approach to the task that can be preformed by the students in a limited amount of time

At the start of a new class, I try to tell the students that if there is some sort of disability or accomodatioin that it is up to them to tell me and that I will do whatever I can to help. most of the time they will come to me after class and we can talk about what needs to happen.

I find it difficult to identify those with learning disabilites within the framework of an online course. Many times the students do not offer this information, and I am legally obliged to NOT ask them if they have a disability. As a workaround, I try to make sure to have online video tutorials with closed captions to aid in difficult course concepts.

Georgia,
I agree that any time we can take these little steps to slow things down or try not to overwhelm our students it will really help those who may already be struggling a little.
