Student with disabilities

Having had some students with disabilities, I often tutored that student separately and daily to make sure they are on track. I often used bold lettering and underlining when needed to let them know what is important. The tutoring helped a lot. They also took tests in a different area that was quiet and no other students in the room to reduce distractions. Also, another instructor would read the test to them out loud and they would put their answer down. That help tremendously.

I have found that most adult learners with learning disabilities don't want anyone else in the class to know that they are having a problem or that they have difficulty learning. Sometimes a simple conversation, one on one with this student will give you enough information that will enable you with the tools to help this student be successful.

Teaching adults with learning disabilites has been interesting. The adults have been able to tell me what accommodations they prefer...i.e...large print, extended time and testing in a separate setting.
