Tutoring

I found on on one sessions with these students can help us work together on their success. in a tutoring session there is less worry of slowing the class down or feeling outcast for what they may think is a "dumb question". I can get to know their learning style better from the personal interactions.

I reinforce my availability to tutor and announce that THEY need to SEE ME so together we can find the best time for us both.
If the student doesn't respond, that's all I can do.

Scott,
yes, making ourselves available is a key way to help all students, but especially those who may be struggling.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

I inform my students at the beginning of the class what times I'm available for tutoring. The students who seem to struggle tend to ask questions during tutoring that they wont ask during class times.

Cynthia,
and this can be very nonthreatening.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

I have a tutoring schedule at my desk where students can sign up for tutoring. I have time available everyday at different times. When students know that you are available, they really do utilize it.

Even small group tutoring is great I found my students like this.

Tutoring gives students the extra time they needed to complete projects that maybe they were to afraid to ask how to complete during regular class time

Tina,
offering to tutor or helping students connect with a tutor is a great service to provide.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
