I truly believe in praising my students and involving the whole class in the praise when a skill is mastered. We recognize every student individually and I encourage an "open" enviroment that involves students assisting each other and allowing them to have autonomy.

I agree with you. Students can feel that they are being ignored when we do not respond to their questions or even when we do not call on them to participate.

I also find that reinforcements work - people like to receive praise and students should be praised for good work. I try to make positive remarks when working with students.
