questioning

In the classroom I have found the use of questioning Is a accurate gauge of comprehension.

James,

These are all true. I feel that the students appreciate these interactive classes more and are more prepared for them.

I find that asking questions as i go along with the lesson plan ,it is a guage of student understanding of what was just dissued. also gives the student time to reflect on the questions and lesson of the day.and make there learnings understood.

James,

These are all great reasons to use questioning. To me, questioning is a very effective tool for teachers and students appreciate the interaction.

Questioning in class lets me know if the students are on task. it gives me interaction in the classroom. It also shows me if students are able to recall what they have learned.

Steven,

This is very true. Our job is to motivate and encourage them to speak up and participate.

I have found that many times the students hesitate to ask questions because they do not want to sound "stupid". They want the answer, but hope that some else will ask the same or similar question. I tell them that the only "stupid" question is the one that they do not ask.

Brian,

I agree with you; questioning promotes critical thinking.

Paul,

I also do like you do. I ask questions to everyone and I mostly try to ask the shy students simpler questions just to get them comfortable about answering.

Judy Mohammed

Questions is so important to learning. With no questions there is no learning.

The diversity i see in my classes sometimes segragates the smarter students from the others when it comes to questioning. I try to give everyone a safe open forum to give everyone a chance to answer wrongly or correctly. It sets the moral, and lets them see its ok to be wrong and not a good idea to be quiet when their education can be affected in a good way by just taking part in the discussions at hand. This seems to work for them and myself.

Albert,

You may be surprised by how much knowledge the students have upon entering our classes. When we challenge them, they often rise to the occasion.

Unfortunately students are hesitant to answer in general because of the fear of being wrong. It is difficult to elicit responses when the students are not comfortable with new information.Peer pressure and the fear of being embarassed are hard emotions to work around.

James,

Absolutely! This helps teachers to guage understanding of the material.

Judy Mohammed

Questioning helps to keep the students involved in the presentation or task that is being done, and will help the instructor to determine how the class is understanding the clas.

Brian,

It does help us to guage comprehension and we may also use questioning to provide information, allowing for critical thinking.
