I don't really plan them, but I try to ask questions frequently to keep the students engaged. One of the things I'm working to improve on is actually planning certain questions into the presentation.

Exactly. My method of choice is to ask a closed question to get them involved, then I ask them why or how so that I can more accurately gauge how much they are understanding the material.
