Question and Answer
In the past i usually ask direct questions and have only had a few responses back. Today in lecture i used the example of "I'd like to answer some of your questions at this point and may i have the first one please" Wow what a difference as i had about half the class raise their hands about my expectations on their final cooking assessment menu. I like it and will use simalar senerios moving forward. This is a useful tool with todays younger generation and a great teaching tool of us old school teachers ^_^
Rebecca,
It is very important for us to show the students that we respect them and value their imput.
Judy Mohammed
That is true! Most students get excited when the realize that the instructor values their imput. The apt to working harder because of it, and as an instructor you will open up that communication door, and can learn so much from your students.
Peter,
It sounds like you facilitate a great class. I also enjoy learning from my students and I let them know that I expect them to share their experiences.

Over the years I have had the oppertunity of learning from all my students and I have become the student as I have learnt many ways of asking questions.
I have learnt that the classroom is theirs also and I am just a faccilitator of ideas and dailouge.
To get the best efforts from my students,I ask at the begining of the term what are their personal expectations for the class, Instructor and the the course content . At the end of each day we have a recap to see if we met those expectations and where as a class we can improve to better the learning enviroment. It is a very eye opening and informative way of communicating and using questions and answers.
Joseph,
This is true and we can use probing to guide them to more information.
Judy Mohammed
Asking questions pertaining to the subjects helps the students to think about subject matter.
Desirae,
Have you tried asking questions during the lectures? This offers the students opportunities to interact and keep them interested and alert.
Judy Mohammed
I am glad I was able to learn more about ways to ask questions in the right manner, after I deliver a message. We as instructors, sometimes have the tendency to want to move on quickly, s result of a long lecture. And this leads us to abruptly asking students "Does anyone have a question", or "Any questions; okay then, let's move right along...."
Glenn ,
It is so true that we need gentle reminders or new techniques from time to time. I am always seeking new methods and I have learned a lot of new techniques as a facilitator of this course. So, thank you all!
