I believe opened ended questions are very important . It makes the student tkink.
This is such a powerful revelation. First identifying students who learn slower and then adjusting to account for there needs by alloting more time to allow them to respond. This way the student is not overlook and is allowed a chance to engage and interact. Open ended questions are surely the key here as well and always perfect for challenge or students.

Harry, I agree with you. I teach at an adult education institution. Using open ended questions helps a lot to involving a lot of students to use their life experiences to agree or opposse in class discussions.

This is true. You will find that the students use wait time because they may be shy rather than unknowing. I had to get used to using wait time and I was happy to learn how important it is.

Wait time is a normal part of questioning, which I have learned to use with "slower" students. By slower, I mean shy students that do not want to speak in class. Lengthening the wait time, starting with a closed "easy" question, can open the door and get this student to start answering in class...
