I would introduce this to our Chief Academic Officer and Program Director team on campus. With all of them exposed to "Flipped Classroom" we can look at effectively implementing at our college.

Hannah,

Wonderful This allows both students and parents the opportunity to mentally prepare for the change long before the change actually takes place.

Markia,

Who would you say they should connect with in order to better understand the concept?

Dr. Moody Crews

Soneka,

Excellent point. If the faculty don't buy in, it will not be successful.

Dr. Moody Crews

Kanidrus ,

I must agree. We can answer our e-mails at our convenience where the phone is a little more restrictive.

Dr. Moody Crews

Neidra,

Very good points. I do agree that the live demonstration is best.

Dr. Moody Crews

Marcia,

I think that is an excellent idea. Certainly something to consider.

Dr. Moody Crews

Dale,

All very good points. I agree that an orientation would be best.

I would make sure to begin introducing the concept to students well before it is actually implemented. I would of course first discuss with administrators and provide the research, stats, and other evidence required to make the case for flipping the classroom. Once administration was on board, I would send an email/letter home to students (and parents if necessary) at the end of the previous school year, before the flipped classroom approach would be starting the following fall. It would detail the advantages to the flipped classroom, and have a link to the platform which the students would be using to watch the videos. There would be a variety of sample pre-recorded lectures for the students to practice watching and interacting with, and examples of what the complementary "in-class" activities would be. This would show the students and parents how much more fun and effective class time will now be! This way, when the students get to school in the fall, they are already familiar with what to expect, how to watch the videos, etc.

Teachers and admins. it is relative easy to introduce flipped system, but Students can be a real challenge on it's design.
It must be something or someone for them to connect with, this part is hard to find or defined.

Enculturating faculty is one of the most important factors in this process. They must first buy into understanding how this increases student learning and also provides a stronger platform for learning. Faculty meetings, providing examples of successful transitions in other schools would all be part of the strategy.

I would start by introducing the concept in the classroom through a live demonstration. This will expose them to the flipped classroom concept. I would give them cases where other classrooms have been successful using this method. I would also give the students and opportunity to give feedback on how this idea would work for them. I would also actively involve the students in searching for videos related to the class.

Emails, letters and phone calls have all proven to be effective. Most people prefer emails while many will not communicate via telephone. Emails in most cases have proven to be easier for almost everyone has an email and can respond even when they cannot answer the phone.

I think the best way to communicate with the stakeholders would be for the faculty/instructors to show the stakeholders a live scenario or a video demo of a flipped classroom in session; along with this the instructor should clearly communicate the purpose and benefits to learning in a flipped classroom situation.

I think an ideal way to communicate with all of the stakeholders about the flipped classroom would be for them to observe this technique in action. I'm not sure how this could be executed; maybe the faculty/instructors could do a live scenario or a demo video.

There are several options for communicating with all the stakeholders. One option is through electronic communications; e-mail, social media, and texting all come to mind. Written communication is an option as well, a mailing to explain the new process to all stakeholders would be effective. Of course nothing works better than face-to-face communication, so an orientation prior to the start of the program would be very helpful.

Carrie,

Very good. All of these are excellent steps to take.

Dr. Moody Crews

David,

I agree. The financial limitations of some students is certainly something we have to consider as we decide how to facilitate our classrooms.

Dr. Moody Crews

To effectively communicate with all stakeholder about the flipped classroom needs to occur prior to the start of learning. Many people are afraid of change, so I would want to prepare all stakeholders to understand the concept. I would also want to review the first prepared video with the students to ensure they understand the concept and expectations of the process. Hopefully at that time I could also review the benefit of the flipped classroom and why it fits the curriculum and learning objectives of the course.

I would have to explain to them the many of possible options available, such as Library, and other available training facility's. I deal with individuals that cant even afford food let alone internet, so for those individuals I feel they would require more F2F interaction.
