Marcia,

That is certainly understandable. As instructors, it is sometimes difficult for us to switch from what we are familiar with.

Beverly ,

That's great that you are taking steps to work on obtaining the skills you need.

I agree with the other instructors that I would like to see the flipped classroom in action. I understand it would take time for both the instructors and the students to grow accustomed to the shift to students as active learners. Our students often say they want more interactive projects but when these projects are assigned, they are often met with a groan and a half-hearted response. It would be great to talk with someone who has successfully brought their students around. I have some ideas on what I would like to bring into the classroom so I liked the fact that it is not required to change everything at once.

I would love it if the professional development of instructors models this method, so that we can experience the student centered learning first hand and embrace the new style for our own learning.

I would need development on how to choose the best mediums based on the subject-matter. It would be nice to have a list of videos previously viewed that instructors have had great results with. I would also want training on how to use this method across the curriculum.

I believe I would need some assistance in developing the pre-recorded lectures. With several of the classes I teach now I have incorporated some of the interactive learning techniques that are described in the "flipped classroom" concept, but I still have some lecture time. The idea of not lecturing at all in the classroom would take some adjustment!

My biggest need would be technological training to further my skills in that area.
I think it would also be beneficial to "see" a flipped classroom in action. In a discussion with another instructor, I found that she is using this method in a particular course. I will follow-up with her for more information, her success and problem areas, etc.

Earle,

I think that's a great idea. If there isn't an instructor in your institution that's using the flipped concept I would suggest attending state professional conferences where teaching is the focus. You should be able to review the conference agenda to see what sessions are being offered. From there you may be able to make arrangements to observe a class in action.

Katie,

Absolutely. Networking with other instructors who are successful in what they do is very important. Take every opportunity to learn from others in order to build our own knowledge base.

Personally I would want to see a "class in action" to get a better feel for the approach.

This course has been a great introduction to the flipped classroom with helpful examples of ways to get started. Towards the goal of flipping the classroom, I believe further networking to gain more tips and tricks would enhance my comfort and ability to implement. I would also be interested in attending conferences or other learning opportunities to gain additional support in how best to leverage our learning management system and other campus resources
